Telecommunications Tower Technician

Job Description:

  • Climb communication towers to install, replace, or repair antennas or auxiliary equipment used to transmit and receive radio waves. Bolt equipment into place, using hand or power tools.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure all hardware is tight, antennas are level, hangers are properly fastened, proper support is in place, or adequate weather proofing has been installed.
  • Install all necessary transmission equipment components, including antennas or antenna mounts, surge arresters, transmission lines, connectors, or tower-mounted amplifiers (TMAs).
  • Lift equipment into position, using cranes and rigging tools or equipment such as gin poles and cat heads.
  • Wear proper climbing harness and use all required safety equipment as needed and/or defined by Tower Foreman and Customer.
  • Perform maintenance or repair work on existing tower equipment, using hand or power tools and safety equipment.
  • Verify service by testing cables, equipment, and alarms; identifying, correcting, or escalating problems.
  • Documents network by labeling and routing equipment and cables; recording configuration diagrams and specifications.
  • Maintains safe work environment by following all State and Federal codes, standards, and legal regulations.
  • Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; taking any company or customer related training as required.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Telecommunications Tower Systems, Basic Telecommunications Knowledge, Telecommunications Technologies such as Ericsson and Nokia equipment, Technical Understanding, Functional and Technical Skills, Independence, Attention to Detail, Verbal Communication, Documentation Skills.
  • Must be proficient and have experience using MS Office (Excel, Word)
  • Basic internet knowledge and ability to proficiently use a mobile phone
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; effectively communicates with all employee levels and levels of management.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Plans network installations by studying customer orders, plans, manuals, and technical specifications; ordering and gathering equipment, supplies, materials, and tools, assessing installation site; preparing an installation diagram.
  • Establishes communications systems by installing, operating, and maintaining voice and data telecommunications network circuits and equipment.
  • Establishes voice and data networks by running, pulling, terminating, and splicing cables; installing telecommunications equipment, routers, switches, multiplexors, cable trays, and alarm and fire-suppression systems; building ironwork and ladder racks; establishing connections; programming features; establishing connections and integrations; following industry standards; activating remote access tools; coordinating with contractors.
  • Verifies service by testing circuits, equipment, and alarms; identifying, correcting, or escalating problems.
  • Documents network by labeling and routing equipment and cables; recording configuration diagrams and specifications.
  • Maintains network by troubleshooting and repairing outages; testing network back-up procedures; updating documentation.
  • Maintains customer rapport by listening to and resolving concerns; answering questions.
  • Maintains safe work environment by following codes, standards, and legal regulations.
  • Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.

Education
Minimum Required

  • High School Diploma / GED Equivalent.
  • Candidates must possess a minimum 6 months Tower Climbing Technician experience.

License or Certification

Tower Technician

GECI, Inc. is currently hiring experienced Tower Technicians. We are a telecommunications company with the headquarters located in Frisco, Texas. We are currently expanding our in house crews and are looking for qualified motivated individuals.

Job Description:

  • On-site supervision of all construction related activities including, erection and repair of towers and co-location system placement. Complete construction projects by scheduling materials, equipment, and personnel, monitoring projects, enforcing code and safety regulations, supervising technicians and sub-contractors.
  • Lead work on tower top, looking after all aspects of work while at the tower top, ensuring that a quality installation has been performed, including rigging, hoisting, landing, fastening, load-hopping, etc.
  • Assist on an overall job on groundwork including all tasks required to build and install a site per customer specs
  • Identify and select cables, ropes, blocks, and tackle by weight and size of load to be moved
  • Maintain material inventory on crew truck and warehouse
  • Perform tower modifications, inspections, inventories and audits
  • Review all documentation to prepare for installation, assemble the necessary materials, determine required installation methods, tools and equipment and direct crew
  • Give direction to Crane Operators engaged in hoisting and moving loads while ensuring the safety of others and material handled
  • Collect and review all on-site closeout documentation and submit to the project manager per the deliverable timelines

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as Wireless Tower Technician.
  • Tower Climbing: 1 year (Required)
  • Must be able to sweep, Passive Intermodulation (PIM) and Fiber Test
  • Ability to read site plans and build accordingly
  • Knowledge of and perform oversight of crews who mount antennas, run coax, apply connectors, sweep lines, and PIM Test Coax lines.
  • Knowledge of knots and tower rigging necessary.
  • Experience operating aerial lifts, man lifts, skid steers and aerial platform equipment.
  • Excellent knowledge of cell site construction
  • Specific experience with wireless carrier builds
  • Experience in installation of all aspects of wireless cell site foundations, grounding, and conduits, with electrical installations where applicable.
  • Must have or obtain documented Authorized Climber & Competent Climber/Rescue certification from an accredited institution that meets the federal standards
  • Must have or obtain OSHA Construction 10 HR Safety Training Card issued by the US Department of Labor
  • Must have or obtain First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Must have completed an RF/EME safety course from a competent provider with documentation
  • DC/AC electrical skills
  • Build BOM based on job needs per plans
  • Basic computer skills including MS Office

Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensure highest level of safety and quality control requirements are upheld
  • Instruct and follow all OSHA and Company Fall Safety procedures
  • Inspect and ensure proper use of personal safety equipment
  • Responsible for site crew quality, timeliness, accuracy, and schedule

Tower Climber – Technician

Tower Climber – Technician

GECI Inc. has openings for Tower Climbers / Technicians. This role requires understanding of the wireless industry with 90% of the time spent climbing cell towers. Must assist the Foreman in developing and planning the site build. Change orders, obstacles and safety concerns that may impede the timeline. Must have a solid understanding of color coding, weatherproofing, grounding, etc. Must have climbing certifications to be considered.
